Over the 9+ years that I’ve been designing wedding invitations and special occasion stationery suites, I have received numerous requests to make a color change to a certain shade of turquoise that is used on a famous blue jewelry box.
What most people don’t realize is that the shade of Robin’s egg blue that is recognizable the world over is actually trademarked by Tiffany & Co. and therefore protected from being copied.
It is such a pretty color that it is understandable why people want to use it as their wedding color. It’s also versatile enough to use throughout the whole year, paired with white or yellow for spring or summer weddings, or with gray, orange, or black for fall and winter weddings.
Many other colors also work with this shade of turquoise or teal blue. I’ve seen some lovely wedding photos that pair turquoise with purple, fuchsia, and lime green to name a few.
And of course turquoise blue will always work well for a tropical destination wedding because it also coordinates so well with sand and tan colors.
I think that most brides that have requested the famous shade of aqua blue have wanted to use it as a whole wedding theme paired with white satin ribbons, and lots of sparkly bling to make everyone think of the high-end jewelry retailer.
So, with that in mind, I decided to try my hand at designing a wedding invitation suite in robin’s egg blue (light teal blue) and white that combines my style with the famous jewelry brand. I imagined planning a wedding using the turquoise color with white ribbon, romantic double hearts bling, and modern typography with a few elegant touches of ornate scrolls and flourishes.
One of the reasons that I hadn’t tackled it before was because of the printed on ribbon images I use. Getting the ribbon to still look like a ribbon instead of a white blob was a bit tricky as I still wanted to keep some of the highlights and shadows that exist on real ribbons. With much tweaking, I finally achieved a look that I’m very happy with and I hope you will be too.
2019 seems to be a big year for fairy tale weddings. I know at Lemon Leaf Prints we’ve seen a lot of couples buying very romantic wedding invitations that either has the joined hearts look as seen in this wedding collection, or they have been buying the storybook “Once Upon a Time” type of fairytale invitations.
It warms my heart to think of these very happy couples starting out their new lives in such an “in-your-face” kind of way that represents their undying love for each other.
Can’t you just picture their wedding venue all decked out in turquoise blue and white with lots of sparkly lights and glittery jewels adorning the tables? I can. I think it would be quite breathtaking to walk into the reception hall and be greeted with all the blue and white tables, possibly with tall centerpieces with white flowers.
You can go as grand as you like or you can keep it simple and let the pure white and aqua blue colors speak for themselves and use dainty centerpieces and crisp linens to evoke a sense of modern sophistication instead of over-the-top luxury. Whatever your dream wedding looks like, carry your theme throughout all aspects of the wedding to give it all a well thought out cohesiveness that is sure to impress your guests.
